Device Linker

Hi,

In CPS presentation, it says CPS allows backward compatibility
matching in a multiple printer site.

How do I create a device link profile in order to accomplish this?
Suppose if I have both Fiery Z18 and QX100, and I want to
simulate DIC of Z18 on QX100, then should I create a device
link profile with a profile selection like DIC profile as Source ->
Z18 output profile as Intermediate ->QX100 output profle as
Output?

Also, what is a difference when using Color Profiler for printer
to keep backward compatibility, such as print a measurement
patch on Z18 to create an output profile, and download it
onto QX100 as a simulation profile?

Matching Printers, with or without device links

I have attached a flow chart that maps out an approach to matching two printers. In this process, the user should first make sure both printers are performing as well as possible, starting with printing a 30% screen of each of the four colorants, preferably on largest paper size available for the engine. If the printer(s) aren't printing the screens consistently and smoothly, service is indicated before profiling.

Sometimes, having machines serviced and then calibrating and profling them will be enough to make the printers match, but this is uncommon.

If the two printers don't match, the user can print profiling charts to each engine, read them, and try averaging measurements to see if this will meet their needs adequately. The more difference in the printers' two gamuts, the less likely that averaging will work, however.

If averaging doesn't work, then the user can make a device link. Profile both printers, and examine the gamut. The gamut that is larger will need to be constrained to match the smaller gamut. One printer will use its own profile (the one with the smaller gamut). The printer with a larger gamut will use a device link that maps the larger gamut printer to the smaller printer's gamut.

Please download the PDF of the flowchart, see what you think, and then post further questions.

Hi,

Thanks for responding.

It looks like the attached file is corrupted.
Would you post the file again?

It's been awhile since the attachement feature in this forum stop working.

I think it's better to sent it via e-mail.
