View Full Version : DE2 and Canon BJC8500: printing stuck
Hi everyone,
the following problem (which was mentioned before in this forum, but not solved...):
At starting up DesignerEdition 2.0 I get the message "Der installierte USB-Drucker wurde nicht gefunden. (etc...)" (> but of course the printer is actually on - AND the same is working fine with DE 1.0!!...)
Nevertheless the printing starts, BUT stops at an indicated filesize of 1,95MB - no way to get on. (Actually I had the same troubles before with DE 1.1...)
The same file prints fine in DE 1.0!
I've tried:
- to remove the original Canon drivers (as suggested before in another thread)
- reeinstall DE2.0
- used Laserwriter8 instead of AdobePS 8.7.3
>> no difference...
(G4 MP450, MacOs 9.1, 640MB RAM; 100MB for DE2.0,
Canon BJC8500 via Canon-USB-cable)
(And there was NO USB-alert!)
Thank you for any ideas or suggestions...!

Hi,
what Software do you have installed on the Mac beside the Designer Edition?

Alex
Hi, Alex!

I list them within the attached txt-file (otherwise it would fill up the forum ;-))

Hi Kitz,
a lot of Software on the machine but it doesn't seem like anything incompatible with Best.
Do you have other Hardware like a Scanner connected to the Mac?
Regards
Alex
Hi, Alex,
of course there is some other hardware connected to the Mac:
via SCSI (PCI-Adaptec 2930CU):
CastlewoodORB - CD-writer(Yamaha CRW4260) - Scanner (Lino Saphir ultra2)
via USB:
_ Wacom tablet / iMate ADB>USB-Adaptor
_ Monitor: Quato colorstation21 (also connected via USB)
_ Palm docking station (USB)
...interesting enough that Best DE1.0 works fine - the problem mentioned only occurs with DE2.0 (same configuration) - !???

Hi Michael,
which version of the Wacom Driver do you have installed?
Have you tried to print without the Wacom Tablet drivers??
If not, please give it a try.
Regards
Alex
PS: Also the Palm-Docking-Software could be a problem
Hi, Alex,
Wacom driver = 4.6.0-6.
Unfortunately nothing helped -
here is what I've tried:
1) Wacom tablet & drivers: off
2) Palm Software & Dockingstation: off
3) Keyspan serial>USB: off
4) NetBarrier: off
5) filesharing on / off
6) delete & new install BestDE2.0
-->> all the same - no difference, printer stops at 1,95MB...!
(Why is DE1.0 working, but not 2.0???)
Best regards,
Michael Kitzinger

Turn off all of your Canon drivers. I think that the problem is actually the BJ USB Cable Module.
This worked for me.
Hi, Michelle
thanks for the reply, but I've tried that before (and did it again just now): it didn't work.
The point is, if I turn off the "BJ USB Cable Module" I can't print at all! The printer is connected by the Canon USB/Parallel Adapter Cable... ;-/
Any other ideas?

Michael Kitzinger

Hi Kitz,
I have seen that you have the Microsoft Framework Extension installed on your Mac. Can you give it a try and remove this extension? Please make also a restart of the Mac before trying again.
Regards
Alex
Hi Alex,
I've tried that - unfortunately with no result.
Everything the same... :(

I have the Canon USB cable also. You should not need their USB driver to connect. Try leaving the Framework extension off and turning off ALL Canon driver extensions. You may also want to disable the PSPrinter and just use the Laserwriter 8.7.1
Good luck!
Hi, Michelle
that's it!!! :-))
Great tip! Printing succesful!
Obviously the combination of the Canon BJC-drivers PLUS the Microsoft Framework extension was the problem... (As long as the Framework ext. was on, it was not possible to print without the Canon USB cable module... !?
Adobe PS works fine anyway - not necessary to switch to the Laserwriter)
Thanks a lot for your help and all replies!
Best regards,
Michael Kitzinger
