Our last computer decided to destroy itself with the result we have a new computer for the rip. It has worked without problems since we bought it, installed on NT and survived an upgrade to XP.

I have installed from our original CD and then updated to 4.22 from an original CD and finally to 4.23 from the link given in another thread.

Operating system is XP as with the last computer.

Having installed the programme and going through "Settings/License settings" I cannot input the "Key" or "Dongle id". I can input "Code". The bottom line "State" is blank.

I have tried a manual install of the dongle driver from "C:\Program\BESTColor for Kodak\Driver\Dongle\RegiNT.bat".

Is this a software problem or has the dongle died as well? What are my current options?

The fields "key" and "dongle id" read the entries from the dongle. The field "code" is updated by the user when he upgrades his version (a new code was supplied by the software vendor). If the first 2 fields have no entries then the software doesn't recognise the dongle or the dongle is not installed. The dongle has a small hole where you should see a red light when you plug it to your PC. My suggestions are: plug the dongle to another port, install the driver from the CD.

hope that helps

Hello all,

Caveman, sorry to correct you - but BESTColor 4.2.x is only running with a parallel dongle - not with a USB dongle as you mentioned.

Expoian - please make sure that your parallel port is set to ECP in the system Bios. Otherwise the dongle won´t recognize.

Secondly - during the installation of BESTColor take care that ONLY the dongle is plugged on the computer - WITHOUT any parallel printer device (and only one dongle...).

To install now the dongle driver manually you should find a tool called cbnsetup in the CD folder Tools and Other.

Hope that helps

with best regards
Detlef
